Traveling to Bhutan can be a thrilling experience, but navigating the visa requirements and regulations beforehand is crucial to ensure a smooth journey. Bhutan has specific visa requirements, exempting only Indian, Bangladeshi, and Maldivian passport holders. To enter Bhutan, tourists must book their holiday through a licensed Bhutanese tour operator or their international partners, who will handle the visa arrangements. Bhutan’s unique “High Value, Low Impact” tourism policy aims to preserve the country’s distinct culture and environment. As part of this policy, tourists must pay a Minimum Daily Package, covering accommodations, food, and other services. Visa requirements vary depending on nationality; Indian nationals need an entry permit, Bangladesh and Maldives nationals can obtain a visa on arrival, while all other nationalities must obtain an e-Visa online before their trip. Additionally, all tourists must pay a Sustainable Development Fee (SDF), supporting Bhutan’s development and preservation efforts, with varying fees depending on nationality and age, and discounts available for children and certain nationalities.
